Why have Vietnam Tra and Basa fish products unceasingly been subject to anti-dumping duties? Is it because the US has not recognized Vietnam as a market economy or is it the fate developing countries, including Vietnam, must accept when joining in the free-trade playground in which the US overwhelms?.

From mid-March 2014, the price of Tra fish has continuously increased, but farmers are not excited. Some people asserted that the price is rising because of the virtual fever in the market.
At the end of March, 2014, the price of Tra fish increased to 25,000 – 26,000 VND/kg, so the small farmers made a profit of 4,000 VND/kg. However, many people do not have captial to farm fish because processing businesses appropriate it and they have difficulties accessing bank loans.
Many experts believe that fish farmers are gradually losing competitive advantage as more and more exporting and processing businesses take the initiative to expand the material areas…. Accordingly, to keep “playing field” for themselves, small farming households need to have appropriate direction.
Regardless of difficulties in Tra fish aquaculture, among its 10 years working, Thoi An Fisheries Cooperative (O Mon district, Can Tho city) had nine years getting profit and only one facing losses.
It is the second time within five years Vietnamese Tra fish has been as an export to Russia, for the same reason: Food hygiene and safety. Russia is not the leading market of Vietnamese Tra fish but it has a great importance in the field.
